Scottish Green Party Lawmakers Call For Mandatory Laboratory Testing Of Disposable E-cigarettes

Jan 04, 2024

According to a report from Pressandjournal on January 1st, Scottish Green Party MP Gillian Mackay is leading a campaign to ban disposable e-cigarettes, calling for mandatory laboratory testing of disposable e-cigarettes.
According to data from the UK central government and Scottish local governments, up to 22% of young people under the age of 18 in Scotland have tried these e-cigarette devices, which often end up in the hands of children.
McKay emphasized that laboratory testing should be conducted on disposable e-cigarettes and the producer's "self inspection" system should be ended. "The risks that unethical suppliers bring to users are too great. We urgently need to control this absurd situation, where producers check their own operations."
She called for the implementation of a UK wide plan to conduct testing through independent and validated laboratories, and now necessary preventive measures must be taken, including developing licensing programs for importers to address this issue.
