South Korean Ministry Of Finance Opposes Treating Synthetic Nicotine As A Tobacco Raw Material

The South Korean Ministry of Finance opposes the use of synthetic nicotine as a tobacco raw material, and the regulation of synthetic nicotine in e-cigarettes has encountered doubts. The Ministry of Finance opposes the defense law against electronic cigarette tax evasion by testing the toxicity of synthetic nicotine.
Recently, according to South Korea's East Asia Daily, the South Korean Ministry of Finance expressed opposition on the 19th to the plan to amend the Tobacco Business Law, which is known as the "Electronic Cigarette Tax Evasion and Prevention Law".
The revised regulation will regulate electronic cigarettes made from synthetic nicotine on an equal footing with traditional cigarettes. Although synthetic nicotine has always been a regulatory blind spot due to the disclosure of harmful ingredients and the imposition of cigarette taxes, the import volume is rapidly increasing.
Currently, most liquid e-cigarettes are classified as "counterfeit cigarettes" and will not be sanctioned even if promoted to teenagers on YouTube or sold in online stores.
In its report to the South Korean parliament, the Ministry of Finance stated that although it is in favor of "eliminating tobacco regulatory loopholes and expanding the scope of tobacco raw materials", it believes that "it is still too early to consider synthetic nicotine as tobacco raw materials", thus essentially opposing the "Electronic Cigarette Tax Evasion Prevention Law".
An official from the Ministry of Finance said, "This is because, in the absence of verified toxicity and safety of synthetic nicotine, if it is classified as a cigarette, the government will allow its circulation
