68% of Vermont voters support a ban on the sale of flavored tobacco, and the bill will be submitted to the House of Representatives for review. Most voters are concerned about adolescent tobacco addiction.
According to a new poll released by Vermontbiz on November 29th, 68% of Vermont voters support legislation to ban the sale of all flavored tobacco products, including but not limited to fruit and candy flavored e-cigarettes, menthol flavored cigarettes, and other flavored cigarettes.
The relevant bill (S.18) has been passed by the Vermont Senate and will be submitted to the Vermont House of Representatives for review in January 2024.
The poll found that support for ending the sale of all flavored tobacco products comes from a wide range of voters in Vermont, including those with different political views and those from various regions within the state. Tina Zuck from the American Heart Association said that 79% of Vermont people are concerned about young people in their community smoking and using e-cigarettes or other tobacco products.
Dr. Faric, a pediatrician from Vermont, stated:
"Pediatricians, parents, and schools are still working hard to support a large number of teenagers who suffer from nicotine dependence. Young people tell us that part of the reason they started using e-cigarettes is because the taste of e-cigarettes is very attractive and makes the products more attractive."
It is reported that the survey was conducted by research company Expedition Strategies in Vermont, conducting a total of 500 interviews with potential voters who may participate in the 2024 election. The interview was conducted from November 14th to 19th, 2023. The overall error margin of the results is ± 4.38%.
