Controversy Over Malaysia's Tobacco Control Act Continues, Former Minister Of Health Criticizes Cabinet For Chaotic Handling

Former Malaysian Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has filed charges against two cabinet ministers and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, claiming that they are obstructing a bill aimed at prohibiting minors born after 2007 from purchasing or consuming nicotine products.
According to Malaysian media focus malaysia on November 16th, former Malaysian Minister of Health Khairy Jamaluddin has filed charges against two cabinet ministers and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, claiming that they are obstructing a bill aimed at prohibiting minors born after 2007 from purchasing or consuming nicotine products.
Although there is not much official update on the bill, the health watchdog stated that the cabinet has decided to cancel the age related provisions of the 2022 Tobacco Products and Smoking Act (GEG).
Attorney General Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh believes that the GEG clause violates Article 8 of the Federal Constitution.
