According to local Brazilian media Metro1, according to research firm Ipec, the Brazilian e-cigarette market welcomed 690000 new users in 2023, bringing its total e-cigarette usage to 2.9 million.
In the past six years, the proportion of e-cigarettes among the Brazilian population has skyrocketed from 0.3% to 1.8%. A survey shows that the usage rate of this type of e-cigarette in Mato Grosso state is remarkable, with smokers skyrocketing from 1.8% of the population to 4%, with a growth rate of 122% between 2023 and 2022 alone.
Mato Grosso State saw growth followed by Goas State (107% increase), Minas Gerais State (100% increase), and Parana State (32.4% increase). In the Federal District of Brazil, although there has been an 18% decrease, it is still the region with the highest electronic cigarette usage rate (one electronic cigarette device per 4.5 households).
However, the Brazilian National Health Supervision Agency (ANVISA) is considering whether to continue to ban or regulate the e-cigarette market, and due to the strict ban on e-cigarettes, a black market has already formed in Brazil.
A study by the Fiemg Confederation of Industries in Minas Gerais, Brazil estimates that the market's annual transaction volume is as high as 7.5 billion Brazilian reals. Most of the products come from China and Paraguay. In terms of taxation alone, the country has lost 2.2 billion reals and the industry has created 110000 jobs.
