The Deputy Director of the Russian Ministry of Health called for a comprehensive review of electronic cigarette additives to reduce their attractiveness to teenagers; The four major departments in Russia have rejected the list of substances prohibited from nicotine products formulated by the Ministry of Health.
According to TASS News Agency on November 9th, the Russian Business and News (RBK) reported that the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture, and Russian Alcohol and Tobacco Regulatory Agency do not support the list of prohibited additives for nicotine containing products, which was originally scheduled to take effect on March 1, 2024. This document was developed by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
Viktor Zikov, Deputy Director of Health Risk Prevention and Communication Technology Management at the Central Health Organization and Information Technology Research Institute of the Russian Ministry of Health, stated that in order to eliminate the attractiveness of e-cigarettes to adolescents, the list of prohibited e-cigarette additives must be exhaustive.
Zikov stated and emphasized that priority in protecting citizens' health interests is crucial, rather than industrial interests.
Zikov pointed out that smokers using e-cigarettes are affected by ultrafine particles and other toxins. This significantly increases their risk of cardiovascular disease and chronic lung disease.
