The Seasoned Tobacco Ban in Mutenoma County, USA Has Been Temporarily Suspended, Originally Scheduled To Take Effect On January 1, 2024

According to a recent report by local media outlet OPB, the Oregon Court of Appeals has temporarily suspended the enforcement of Mutenoma County's ban on retail flavored tobacco and nicotine products, which was originally scheduled to come into effect on January 1, 2024.
At the beginning of this month, a judge from the Mutenoma County Circuit Court rejected a request from tobacco companies to prevent the regulation from taking effect. But these companies have appealed this decision.
In court documents, tobacco retailers argue that the ban would cause irreparable damage to their sales, leading to employee layoffs and significant income losses. They said that once the regulation takes effect, some companies will have to close.
Mutenoma County is the second region in Oregon to enact a ban on the sale of flavored tobacco products. Its neighbor Washington County was the first to enact such a regulation, but it was overturned by different circuit court judges last year.
The purpose of these retail bans is to prevent children and adolescents from using tobacco, which health officials say may lead to lifelong nicotine addiction.
